Player Profile

Son of a coal-mine worker, Umesh Yadav was once aiming to become a policeman. He started considering a career in cricket at the age of 19 and has never looked back since then. He represents the state of Vidarbha in first-class cricket.

Yadav usually bowls from wide of the crease and his delivery angles into the right-hand batsman. His capability of bowling at a speed of over 140 kph and producing effective bouncers helped him claim 20 wickets at 14.60 in his debut game for Vidarbha in the 2008-09 season. He attracted eyeballs with his pace while playing for Delhi in the 2010 season of the Indian T20 League and then was drafted in Kolkata for the 7th season. Yadav received his maiden Test call up later in the year, for the tour of South Africa but didn't play his first Test until nearly a year later, against West Indies in Delhi.

Yadav's taste of international fame came during India's shambolic tour to Australia where he turned out to be one of the few positives for the team. He scalped 14 wickets in four games which included his maiden five-fer in Perth. Indian cricket has always yearned for a genuine quick bowler for years and Umesh Yadav could well be the answer to the conundrum as he featured in the winning Champions Trophy team as well in 2013. Umesh Yadav continues to be in the fray for things to come.
