Player Profile

Termed as one of the next generation stars of Indian batting, Shreyas Iyer is a well-known name in the domestic circuit. With a staggering FC batting average, the Mumbai batsman is known for his dominating approach while batting. He strikes at an excellent rate and to have such amazing consistency is laudable. His style of play has drawn comparisons with the legendary Virender Sehwag who set a trend among Indian openers.

It was in the 2014-15 season that Iyer shot to fame, featuring in the top 10 run-getters of the Ranji season. It only got better from then on for the stylish batsman as he became the top run-scorer of the 2015-16 season with a whopping 1321 runs to his name at an incredible average of 73.38 - a feat that made a loud statement in Indian cricketing circles. The 2016-17 domestic season was comparatively lukewarm for Iyer but he still averaged over 40.

A double century against the visiting Australians in a practice game in 2017 put him in the reckoning and he was eventually picked in the squad for the final Test of the Australia series when skipper Virat Kohli got injured. Although Iyer didn't get a game, it shouldn't be long before he dons the national colors in the longest format of the game. However, he is not as consistent in the shorter formats, he is definitely an aggressive player who can take the game away from the opposition. Iyer played some handy knocks for the Delhi franchise in the Indian T20 League and became the Emerging Player in 2015. The following seasons were not as fruitful but he continues to remain a big asset for them.
