Player Profile

Lahiru Thirimanne is regarded as one of the most talented batsmen that Sri Lanka has produced in recent times. He started his career as an opening batsman and made his first-class debut for Ragama Cricket Club in 2008. He also represented the Sri Lankan Under-19 team at the 2008 Cricket World Cup in Malaysia. He showed early signs of his talent when he averaged almost 60 in his first full first-class season for Ragama.

His impressive domestic form helped him in his selection for the national team and subsequently, he made his ODI debut in 2010 against India, followed by his maiden Test appearance in 2011 against England in Southampton. After a lean start, which saw him make sporadic appearances in the national side, he moved to the middle-order and that's when things started to click. He scored a fine 91 against Australia in 2013 and ten days later, he went on to notch his first international century, against Australia in an ODI in Adelaide, earning him the Man of the Match award. Two months later, he broke his century drought in Tests when he scored a splendid 155* against Bangladesh in Galle. With age on his side, Thirimanne has a bright future ahead. The one area he needs to improve upon is consistency in the longest format of the game.
